Parrots

There are 27 species of Amazon parrots,
ranging from South America to Mexico and the
Caribbean.
These robust green birds are medium to large in size with a
short, somewhat rounded tail. The different amazon species can
be identified by its brilliant splashes of colour, one can see
on their heads, napes, necks, wings and tail
feathers.
Amazon parrots are very good at talking and imitating sounds,
talents rivaled only by the African Grey Parrot. They are
highly intelligent birds, very outgoing and renowned talkers.
Research shows that they have the same level of intelligence as
of a dolphin, a monkey or a three year old human. Tests also
reveled that Amazon Parrots have the ability to talk in context
and are also able to categorize things such as colors and
number of items.
Amazon parrots are known to bear a number of diverse
personalities, they can be very playful, childish and lovable
at one time and some times they can be aggressive and stubborn.
These different personalities and temperaments are what attract
most to humans, as we relate their human like behaviors. A lot
a people relate their intelligent behavior as an outcome of
their sharing the same domicile with monkeys in
forest.
Amazon parrots being a very social bird, enjoys being in the
company of people, they adjust well to captivity, adapting
easily to their surroundings, cage or aviary and with humans.
Amazons being an intelligent bird, you will be able to teach
them words and phrases. They love water and always are more
than happy to take a shower.
Nature has given Amazon parrots a very strong beak; they make
good use of it in their natural habitat, so in captivity you
have to make sure that you provide them with chew toys, you
also have to make sure that they do not get hold on anything
that is toxic and dangerous for their health. Their daily food
intake should include parrot pellets, fruits and vegetable and
plenty of fresh water (preferable spring or distilled water).
Care to be taken for trimming their feathers occasionally at
the vet.
