Caring Your
Lorikeet
Lorikeets are affectionate birds which can
live with your family as a lovely pet. They display beautiful
colors in their feathers and they are always ready to play.
If you decide to adopt a lorikeet, you need
some advice and intelligent tips which can be vital to offer
your bird a healthy, long and happy life. Lorikeet
care is different from parrots or cockatoo care,
so use these simple tips as a basic guideline that you can
reinforce with the avian vet help.
First of all, it is essential to buy your
lorikeet from a reliable breeder. Once you have dealt with this
step, you should build a relationship with your lorikeet. You
should talk it every time you see it in order to make it trust
you. You should also be patient and if it is a hand-fed
lorikeet, start extending your hand toward your pet.
Remember that lorikeets are very active, so
it will need an appropriate cage. You should clean the bottom
of the cage at least once a day. You can add some toys to the
cage (for example, plastic ball and rings). Your lorikeet will
surely like them.
Nowadays there are a
wide range of products specially manufactured for
lorikeets, so you will not have any problem to feed it.
Despite that, consult your avian vet to know if it is
necessary to give your lorikeet vitamin supplements. You
can also give it vegetables and fruits like carrots,
mango, broccoli etc. The water dish should be deep enough
to allow your lorikeet to take a bath. They do like taking
baths!
Lorikeets are very noisy, so be ready to
hear your pet screeching. On the other hand, if you pay
attention to it, noise will decrease. They usually make noise
to get their owners attention. Lorikeet care includes
different items but it is not difficult to cope with them if
you love your small lorikeet!
