Lovebird Care

Are you of the opinion that taking care of animals and birds is not a big deal.....then you are certainly wrong! If you think that half of your task is done after you bring home the new pet to your family....... then a lot is left for you to know. This article will cover all the details meticulously about how you should take care of your lovebird. If you can manage to follow the steps mentioned below carefully, then keeping a lovebird as a pet will no more be a difficult task for you.

Like any other birds, the lovebirds also need special care and protection. They are social creatures, but without proper care it may become difficult to raise them. The question that can come to your mind is that how to start the process of taking care of your lovebird. Well, you just to concentrate on few areas of importance like food, housing and health.

Let’s begin our discussion by taking a closer look about how should be the house of the lovebirds. The lovebirds should be kept in a cage having minimum two perching places. Moreover, there should be enough space for the lovebird to fly around from one perch to another within the cage.

The normal measurement of the cage should range in between 24-30 inches. It should also be horizontal in shape. If the cage is less than at least 18 inches, it would be quite restrictive and small for the bird. The size of the perches should be comfortable enough for the lovebirds to keep their feet properly. It should neither be very small or very large. Keep these considerations in mind while constructing the cage for your lovebird.

Inside the cage, there should be an arrangement of 2 sets of water and food dishes. In this case, you can alternate the dishes & wash them every day. You should make sure to change the water everyday and wash the dish regularly. However, if you want you can keep the same food dishes with food for a longer period of time. But you should wash them minimum once in a week.

The lovebirds are quite fond of vigorous activities within the cage & they prefer doing so for staying healthy. Swings, interlocked bamboo rings and ladders are their most favorite items in the cage to play with. You can find all these items in pet stores or departments of the pet birds. However, you should try to stay away from small toys that are solely created for budgies and parakeets. The strong beaks of the lovebirds can easily break these toys. You should rather choose those toys that are created for small parrots and cockatiels.

After you have taken good care of the lodging, the next thing that you should take care of is the food habits of the lovebirds. These birds need similar food items like the small parrots and cockatiels. If you are planning to feed the lovebirds with seed mix, make sure of choosing the one containing nutritional supplements. A rich source of nutrients will keep the bird healthy and make the diet also rich in quality.

Other than proving right lodging and proper nutritional food, you should also make sure to take the lovebird to a professional avian veterinarian if you see any signs and symptoms of any disease or injury.

If you can abide by the steps discussed above, you can certainly become a great pet owner. It really gives a great amount of satisfaction once you are able to pet an animal or bird successfully.
