How To Stop Pets Jumping Up On The Furniture

Keeping pets off your new furniture is not an easy task, as any one with experience in the mater will confirm. Like it or not, pets seem to have a fascination with jumping on your bed, lounging on your sofa and even exploring your wardrobe every now and then. It would be fine if they just sat nicely and were clean, but as we know this is often not true of pets. Instead they claw at your bedding, chew up your couch and get mud all over your lovely white wardrobes. There are ways to prevent this happening though; here are 3 of the best.

Training. First and foremost a pet that has been trained well will not misbehave and ruin your lovely living room and bedroom-furniture. If you can train your pets early in their life then you stand the best chance, because as the saying goes, ‘you can’t teach and old dog new tricks’. Ideally you should train your pets that furniture is for humans and not for them. However, many people do let their pets on certain pieces of furniture, in which case your pets should know which ones they are allowed on, and which are forbidden.

Pet deterrents
. If you forgot to train your pets when they were young and now they just wont pay attention to you, you might need more direct action. You can buy different types of pet repellent spays and powders that they can’t stand the smell of. These products often smell quite citrusy, which is one of the worst possible smells for pets as their noses are too sensitive for it.

Discipline. This ties in with training, but even pets that have had no training at all with still respond to correct discipline. This doesn’t mean that you should hit your pets every time they jump on the chair or bedside cabinets, but instead be consistent with how you react when they do. There is nothing more confusing to an animal than being told off for something one day and allowed to do it the next without being told off.Provide a good amount of praise when your pets behave, and only tell them off using a loud voice and by moving them firmly from anywhere they shouldn’t be.

Why You Need Pet Insurance

Pet insurance can actually be very important for many reasons as our house has just recently found out. Basically we have had our golden retriever for a number of years and he hasn’t really had any problems at all other than a skin condition which is apparently quite common for golden retrievers but other than that we do not seem to have had any problems at all.

However recently his eye has been weeping and over time a small black lump has started to grow over his eye. It didn’t seem to bother him or irritate him in anyway at all however it would seem that because we have to keep wiping it that it was starting to get to him which is why we thought we had better take him to the vet. the first time we took him they said he was fine but he would need to come back after we had used some eye drops on him.

Once we took him back they said that they would need to do a small operation on the eye to make sure it stayed away. The cost was a very large £300. Although this doesnt sound like it is much of a bill compared to other people if you think about it then you will realise it is a lot of money over the festive season. All I can say is that we were very lucky we had some pet insurance as we were going to cancel it a couple of months back because it looked like we were never going to need it.

So it just goes to show that you may need insurance when you don’t think you do. You can even get things like puppy insurance which of course are based around the younger dogs.

If you are thinking about going away to a colder climate this year then make sure you do not forget your ski insurance.
