Choosing Among the Best Exotic Pet Birds

People like to keep pets for different reasons; some keep them as a companion, some keep them for affection and some as help. Among different kinds of pets, Exotic birds are the most popular one; they are not only attractive in their looks, with those beautiful vibrant colored feathers, but are also easier to care for, than those furry cat or a disorderly dog. Sun Conures – Being 12 inches in length, they are one of the most popular medium sized pet bird. Conures size makes it a favorable choice for people who only afford a limited space for their pet bird, as they require less living space than larger parrots. As the name suggests the feathers of Sun Conures are colored with radiant hues of orange, yellow, red, green, and blue. Like parrots, they too can be taught to speak, the only problem is sometimes they overdo the talking and becomes quite noisy. They have a tendency to scream and screech and may not be an ideal for those living in apartment buildings. They have a life expectancy of around 20 to 35 years.

African Grays - These birds are believed to be amongst the most talkative amongst exotic birds, they can learn a vocabulary of up to 2,000 words. These birds are also quite brilliant, but they can get demanding and easily bored. However, African Greys can also be quite affectionate - perfect for owners who want sensible companions. They may live from 50 to 70 years.

Budgerigars – They are widely known as the most common pet bird and serve as good introduction to owning feathered pets. They are about 7 inches long and weigh about 35 grams, with a life expectancy of about 12 to 14 years. Budgerigars are intelligent and social birds and enjoy the company of humans and other Budgerigars. Though they can be taught to speak, they only have limited vocabulary. Budgerigars are hardy birds and usually remain very healthy.

Cockatiels – Cockatiels are among the popular pet birds of the world. As a member of the parrot family, they have the ability to mimic and are quite intelligent and social bird, who enjoys the company of their owner. They have a life span of around 15 to 20 years.

Parrotlets – A member of the Amazon Parrots family, they are one of the smallest species of parrots, with a growth of about 5 inches and a life span of around 20 years. They doesn’t posses the amazing talking ability when compared with their close relative the ‘Amazon Parrots’, but when compared with other small parrots, they are quite good. They are considered ideal for pet owners who live in apartment houses as they are less noise compared to other exotic birds.
